Volunteers are the backbone of Bolton Lads & Girls Club and without their help and support we would not be able to open seven days a week.
We are proud to have such a diverse team of dedicated volunteers who put so much into the running of Bolton Lads & Girls Club, whatever the amount of time they can spare. Age, background and experience are no barrier to what can be achieved by giving up some time and dedication. The rewards really do speak for themselves.
All our volunteers are given ongoing support and training, and many go on to achieve qualification, accredited certificates of achievement, and some have gone on to gain employment working with young people. For the majority, volunteering has been a positive, life changing experience.
There are so many different volunteering opportunities here at the Club including: Mentoring, Sport, Youth-work, Driving, Fundraising, Catering, Event Organising ........ the list goes on.
Here are some details of various sections of the club which need volunteers:
Mentoring
As a volunteer Mentor you would meet weekly, giving support and guidance to a young person. Often, hard to reach and disadvantaged, the young people referred to the Mentoring Project have little support elsewhere and have no, or few positive role models in their lives.
Full training and ongoing support is given to volunteer mentors, as well as the opportunity to gain a qualification in Mentoring.
N.B. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from male mentors, to accomodate the growing list of young males referred to the project.

Youth Work
Our youth club sessions run seven days a week. Working with young people from different backgrounds, cultures and disabilities, our youth club sessions provide a stimulating, entertaining and fun, safe haven for young people. Youth clubs are accessible to all young people in a central location.
Junior Club volunteers work on Wednesday and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Working with young people aged 8-12 years, the emphasis is providing fun positive activities for all.
Senior Club sessions run on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Young people aged between 12 and 21 years are engaged in positive activities, group work and encouraging participation. This can often be very challenging, but very rewarding and great fun.
Just for Girls
This a session that runs on Sunday afternoons, which allows girls, especially those from an Asian background to access all the club's facilities in a non-threatening, fun enviroment.
Sports Development
23 football teams, badminton, netball, cricket, basketball, boxing, martial arts - to name but a few! Sports Development plays an important role in the club's activities and therefore we provide many diverse sports to engage young people.
Ideally our Sports Development volunteers should have some experience in delivering a sports programme, either through further education or work experience, but ongoing support and training is provided.
Events & Fundraising
If you cannot commit to a regular session every week, why not get involved in helping with our events and fundraising. Details of events can be found on the website, but new ideas are always welcomed. We are always looking for people to help with events, and those who do become involved always have great fun and return for other events!

The V Team
A new exciting development for the club has seen the arrival of the vteam. One of the first teams to be established in the Country, with backing from v the new national Charity, the vteam are actively engaged in encouraging young people, aged 16-25, from across Bolton, to undertake meaningful volunteering activity.
“It is all about raising aspirations and offering young people the opportunity to undertake the activity they are interested in, whenever, wherever and with whoever that might involve. We need to change the perception of volunteering and show that through volunteering young people can have fun, try new things, meet new people, visit new places, make new friends, learn new skills and gain self confidence all of which can contribute towards enhancing career and job opportunities or add an extra dimension to their lives”
The vteam offers a:-
- recruitment and matching service, ensuring that the right volunteers are placed with the right organisations.
- Robust monitoring support throughout
- Training and development support
- Accreditation for Volunteers
- Quality Assurance of the programme
- High profile and recognition
The Club has a tradition of volunteering and this project can be viewed as a natural development and progression. It is very much a scenario were everyone benefits - the volunteer, the community and society in general
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Graham or Nicola on 01204 540136.
