National Citizen Service (NCS) is a Big Society initiative that the Club piloted in 2011, after being especially chosen by the government.
Following on from a successful summer, the Club was chosen in again by the government in September 2011 to provide youngsters with a summer experience they will never forget!
Summer 2012 promises once again to be an amazing opportunity for young people 16 to work together, take on new challenges and make a difference in their local communities in a project Bolton Lads and Girls Club is thrilled to be taking part in.
This will include for each young person, three weeks of full time activity including a two week residential element involving adventurous outdoor activities and a community element, where young people will develop social action projects to help their communities. Following this young people will be supported to complete a further 30 hours of voluntary work on a part time basis.
The club has a long history in supporting a wide range of young people from the town to engage in new activities, develop skills and discover their potential. NCS provides a fantastic platform to continue this but also provides us with an opportunity to reach out to young people who may not have traditionally accessed the club and introduce them to the wide array of activities and support that the Club has to offer.
Don’t just take our work for it; here is what NCS 2011 graduates say:
Mary-Kate Litherland, 17 from Farnworth said: “I wanted to take part in NCS as it sounded a really good way to spend my summer and at the same time something that would look good on my CV. The whole experience has been amazing, I’ve developed my self-confidence and gained great new skills.”
Eden Malyasi, 16 from Great Lever, added: “I’ve learnt such a lot from taking part in NCS. I’ve had such a great summer and it was amazing. It’s helped me gain independence and skills I otherwise wouldn’t have developed. ”
